Cross the fingers and and the toes!

ARRRRGHHHHHH- Just popping on quickly to let you know that if you haven't BACKED your stash up in the last month or two- STOP READING and do it NOW!!

lol, Yup, you know what's coming ?- OMG, Friday afternoon ( after I dragged my sorry ass to the doctor eventually because I had gone stone deaf in the left ear!)- I decided it was time to do a back-up of my EHD ( last one was just over 3 months ago!!) YEAH, I hear you- but trust me 3 months on my calendar goes so fast!- and it holds ALL my designing stuff, new kits half done, arrgh- well lets just say EVERYTHING I use to do what I do!

So to cut  a long sorry story short - I turn it off ( it's working FINE at this stage people !!!) as I want to use Waynes computer to do the DVD burn as his is so much faster ( and I can carry on with my PC while it's busy- lol)- UHUM- and here is where it gets a little *scary*-

I plug it in and turn it on- NOTHING, - ARRGHH, Nothing! So I shout to Wayne who comes running thinking that I'm injured- lol, So he say's MOVE OVER- I'll do it ( you know that look that say's- sheeee' Bloody WOMAN?)-

ahah, NOPE, nothing- He can't see it either- It turns on- the light comes on, it even does the little start hum- NOPE, NADA, NOTHING!- So I don't even bother trying to search any more- I GET BUNNY on MSN (my Computer guru/muse LOL - HELP ME, So after telling Wayne to get over to read Bunny's instructions- which he follows- STILL NOTHING- !!!

So What does Bunny say- wanna guess.. ROTFLMAO-......... Oh hell- You screwed! lol - that was me- I packed out laughing hysterically, and even Wayne didn't have a choice but to join in.

I eventually told him to LEAVE IT- as it's already Friday night and we had our little trip etc the next day- I didn't want it on the back of my mind-( later for me IS BETTER_ hahaha) WEEELLLL, it's been to Waynes IT people at work- and NO they can't get anything to read either- so I'm now downloading, re-naming and trying to salvage stuff from my old back ups- but the last three months work is GONE! SO STOP READING ___ BACK UP BACK UP BACK UP- lol ( not giving up yet- it's being flown to JHB to a company that say's it can recover data off the disc- so cross those fingers and toes!!)

I'll be back tomorrow with some pics and eye candy for you - I just need to go save them from everywhere now- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. ( yup, I still have my humour and I am still laughing)- but today it's SORT, SORT and SAVE SAVE!.

Sending hugs and loves Kim

(P.S)- my hubby DID make me cry on Saturday by the way- he went all out and for a man who hardly even buys flowers- MAN, he must have read a book on *HOW TO romance your wife*- because he sure as hell made up for years worth of *no roses and chocolates* in ONE DAY! - hee hee, details (ok well only some) during the week.

That is horrible had 2 EHD's do that to me learned the hard way. Glad you found a company that can do retreivals for you. SS that this happened to you. Happy you had a fab get away well deserved, you need to be treated like a queen ever now and then.

Just read your bad news...I sure hope that they can retrieve it all for you! You are sure taking like a real trooper, I'd be a basket case. Glad that your weekend was a good one for you, you deserve it.

Ouch.... I'm sad when even a few hours of work go poof, when a program crashes...
But this is far worse, and you handle it so much better! You sure have great spirit.
I'll too keep my fingers and toes crossed for you.
I'll even cross my eyes if that will help.

Btw, you do have a special husband, one that actually can follow instructions, even those given by a woman!! LOL.

Now, I'd like to read TWO things on your next post...
1- That they could salvage all your work from the EHD,
2- Anything and everything about your weekend you want to share! :)

Hugs,
Dinphy

Oh Kim that is devastating news!! It just boggles a person's mind that it is working one minute you unplug-than plug back in and it's gone. How can that be????? OMG! You get an ehd so that your stuff is safe--but like they say it's still a hard drive and you must back up to disks! But I have seen where disks go bad too!! So when I back up I do so many times. But, I too don't do it as often as I should!! I sure hope that they can retrieve your stuff!!! Praying for a very good outcome!:)

So sorry to hear about your loss of all that work. :( To prevent exactly the same thing happening to me, a few months ago I invested in a 2nd EHD, and I backup new stuff just about every day. It's time-consuming, but gives me peace of mind. Sorry to sound so smug/preachy/ etc... All my best.

Hi Kim,
I wasn't sure from your blog if it was an external drive you were trying to get info off from. If it was my hubby says that an external drive is just an internal drive in a box and that it may only be the power source that is bad and that info may be intact. If you have sent it away they may ne able to recover the info by simply removing it from the "box" and plugging it into a computer and retreiving the info. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. My hubby is a maniac for backing up and having backups for the back up. I have a 500G hard drive and then 2 back ups for it. He calls it his "insurance policy". Hope all is well and sorry for your trouble. Wendy @ wendym_12972@yahoo.com

Aw. You should probably consider online backup options like Carbonite? It might really come in handy for you and probably worth the cost.

I can't wait to see your pics of your lovely weekend. hehe :)

Aww man... That sucks! I'm glad you haven't given up! good luck - I have to admire the way you're taking this!

Kim,
There's lots of reasons why your external harddrive doesn't work and you haven't necessarily lost anything. Could be a problem with power in the case.. could be the file allocation table, etc. I've successfully pulled info off with inexpensive software off the web as well as removing from a case and plugging the hard drive into another cabinet. If you need any suggestions on software -- let me know.

Kim,

Just on Sunday I was looking through the Sunday ads and noticed that they had a 500g EHD for what I paid for my 250g EHD. My thought was now that I have all my pictures; digital scrapping papers, elements, etc; genealogy file; census, birth certificates, death certificates, etc on my EHD that I should invest in a second EHD to back it up. Look's like I'm going out and spending the $88 for the new EHD. Sorry for your loss and hopefully it's recoverable.

Ouch Kim!!! I hope it all gets recovered. Love your attitude, girl! You crack me up with your sense of humor. My fingers and toes are crossed, and I'm taking your advice. I haven't backed up to discs since I got my passport 10 months ago!!!! It'll take me weeks.
let me know if you need your Angel Baby kit ;) I'm burning it to a disc right now.
~Much Love~

I recently had to take a hard drive out of it's case and put it in a new one to get it to work, hope someone tried that for you. That works if it's just an electrical connection in the drive. Also, check the cord, they are the first things to go. Hope you get your data back!
