A Sad day

I got a heartbreaking phone call about two hours ago from my Dad to tell me that Popsie ( Dalmaine) had passed away at 9am this morning.

Popsie(his nickname that we all know him by) was Gaye’s and my step-uncle and was my dad’s *right hand man* so to speak. For the last couple of years until lately they shared my dad’s house together, living out of each others pockets and we knew that both were taking care of the other as well as being company for each another. One cooked, the other washed dishes, one bought take- away’s the other paid for a drink on Friday nights etc etc. Both had lost their wives to cancer and had a great relationship that went down deep.

Popsie fell ill a few month’s ago and had moved in with his daughter – it left my dad lost and we all missed his humour and antics when visiting my dad.

He landed up in hospital on Thursday and this morning got up out of bed, went to the nurses station to have a chat and just passed on right there chatting to the nurses. (which made me smile through my tears- he was such a lady’s man, and it almost seemed appropriate somehow.)

I feel a little lost today to say the least as Wayne is also away and so I’m just using my blog and you to ease some of the *tightness* sitting in my chest ;-)

Will miss you Pops! Give Ma a huge hug and kiss from me when you see her!

Thanks for reading guys

Oh, Kim...I'm so very sorry to hear of your family's loss. And you were right...if he passed away doing something he enjoyed doing, like flirting with the ladies, at least you know he left with a smile on his face. It sounds as if his passing will leave a gaping hole in your Dad's life in particular. Rest assured you are in my prayers and thoughts as you cope and endure.
loving hugs,
Melanie

Such sad news, Kim. I'm so sorry for your family's loss - especially your Dad. Lifelong friends are so rare, and it certainly sounds as though your Dad and Pops had a special relationship. The Lord must have needed a special angel to sit as his side.
Prayers are with you all.

sorry Kim, know how it hurts when you lose special people in your life. Glad that Nathan was home today so that you had someone to be with. Take care, prayers are with you. And I'll take some of your sunshine. Tired of cloudy, cold and snowy days in the USA.

Reading your blog about the loss of Popsie touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. I used to call my dad "Popsie" too. I hope wonderful memories fill your heart and those of your family when you remember Popsie. God bless you. Diane

I'm so sorry hun! I came here to get in contact with you again (computer issues and email change with move) and see this :( How very sad. What a huge loss to your family. ((((HUGS)))) from me to you!
It's so hard to lose people we love. Seems unbearable to go on with life knowing they won't be in it. Carry him in your heart and keep those memories in a safe place for days you miss him too much.
